Laura Macchiarini

Laura Macchiarini was born and raised in San Francisco and lived there until moving to Durango, Colorado in 1966. In the early 1960's a friend introduced her to the italic alphabet (chancery cursive). After moving to Durango she began entering her work into small shows and local art fairs. Her work was juried in the Palace of the Governors show in Santa Fe, New Mexico, as part of the Book Arts Fair in 1982. On this occasion, Sheila Waters lectured at the museum and conducted a workshop in Albuquerque.

In the late 1980's Laura began attending the literally Letters seminars(founded by Alice Blue) at Ghost Ranch in northern New Mexico. Many outstanding calligraphers, lettering and book artists come to Ghost Ranch to take classes as well as to instruct. Ms. Macchiarini has taken workshops with Larry Brady, Annie Cicale, Nancy Culme, Laurie Doctor, Anna Pinto, Susan Skarsgard, Fran Strom Sloan, and Bill Womack. Laura continues to show her work at various venues in Durango as well as freelancing and teaching beginning calligraphy.

She was a founder of the Durango Calligraphers Guild and is a member of Friends of Calligraphy(San Francisco) and Washington D.C. Calligraphers Guild. She and her Husband Charlie Langdon have two sons Mark and Matt.(May2001)
